about

Polestar Studios

Polestar was established in 1990 by Pauline Murray, singer of iconic punk band Penetration. Thousands of bands and musicians have used the facility in its long history.

At the heart of the studio is a Trident Series 75 Mixing Console, alongside a selection of great vintage gear as well as some modern classics.

Our Story

Polestar was originally created as a rehearsal studio by Pauline Murray of iconic punk band Penetration. More recently we have become a dedicated recording studio – working with some of the region’s most promising up-and-coming artists, as well as established national acts from all over the country.

The studio is operated by producer/engineer Alex Blamire who has worked on a plethora of records. For the past 15 years Alex has been honing his craft in many studios up and down the country.

Producer Robert Blamire also runs the studio; he is a  founding member of Penetration and bassist in the Invisible Girls. He has worked producing critically acclaimed records for bands such as The Scars and Happy Refugees, as well as working closely with Pauline Murray on her solo ventures.

Over the 30+ years Polestar has been used by thousands of artists & musicians. In 2021 the studio hosted ‘Polestar Live Sessions‘ (image above) an Arts Council funded project, which created opportunities for artists to showcase their work. The project invited artists to perform on a live broadcast, with highlights now available on YouTube.

About Us

Relax…

Recording and Mixing can be great fun, but it can also get tiring and occasionally stressful.

Feel free to take a break in our bright and spacious reception area, where you can chat, read, catch up on your social media – or just get away from the endless re-takes of the drummer who didn’t learn the songs properly!

There’s a supply of tea, coffee, chilled drinks and snacks to keep those energy levels up, and if you need it, we also have a small kitchen facility with an oven, microwave, kettle etc.

It’s always a joy to record at Polestar. We’re so lucky to have such a high-end facility on our doorstep run by such professional, friendly, & passionate people. It’s a studio I’ve been comfortable & confident in, allowing me to express my creativity… And most importantly, it sounds amazing!
